Jubilee: 2 Weeks to Go!

Channels Residents Community Group is proud to be part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons and Associated Activities and has announced plans to light a Beacon for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the evening of Thursday, June 2nd, 2022.

The Beacon is one of thousands being lit in the UK and the Commonwealth, and forms part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend. The Beacon will be lit at Channels Park, and it will be one of over 2,022 lit by charities, communities and faith groups all over the UK.

In addition, beacons will be lit in all 54 Commonwealth capitals and the Principal Beacon lighting will take place in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening. This will take the form of a lighting installation with The Queen’s Green Canopy ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture and projections onto the front of Buckingham Palace. This innovative new way of taking part in the beacon lighting will reflect the Royal Family’s long history championing environmental causes.

We will be opening the weekend of Jubilee celebrations with the Beacon Lighting Ceremony and the evening will include a Jubilee Raffle, a Cake Decorating Competition, a family Jubilee Trail, some craft activities for children and everyone singing ‘A Life Filled with Grace’ as the beacon is lit.

Over the next two weeks, we will post more detail and reminders about the evening so keep an eye out for updates via the CRCG website, Facebook & Twitter! 🙂

For now, and if you are a Channels Resident, you can buy your Jubilee Raffle tickets online in advance and there are some great prizes to be won!

Jubilee Celebrations!

On 2nd June 2022, we will celebrate another unique milestone in our history, Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth – her Platinum Jubilee.

As a community, we can pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen as part of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend of celebrations from 2nd to 5th June 2022 and the CRCG will be kicking off the weekend of activities taking place in the local area with a beacon lighting event in Channels Park.

There will be more information & updates over the coming weeks however for now, you can find a little more about the Platinum Jubilee here and our very own beacon at www.channels.community/jubilee-beacon/

Community Meet Up

As it appears that numbers attending on Friday will be low, and as nobody has expressed an interest in joining the main CRCG Committee, we have decided that there is no benefit in holding an Annual General Meeting at this time. We will prepare an annual report, which will be circulated early in the new year, and we will look to hold an AGM at a later date.

Every resident is considered to be part of the Channels Residents Community Group however we do need a working management committee to coordinate and progress important projects such as the Defibrillator and the 2022 Jubilee Celebrations.

The room at the Community Centre has been booked, so please do come along for a chat and to get to know your local Channels community neighbours whilst having a cup of mulled wine and some light refreshments.

If there are any new rules regarding use of the Community Centre in light of the current COVID situation, we will update accordingly.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday from 7pm. Seasonal hats welcomed! 🙂

Annual General Meeting

Come along to find out more about the Community Group and get to know your local Channels community neighbours whilst having a cup of mulled wine and some light refreshments, all with a seasonal feel!

Every resident is considered to be part of the Community Group however we need a working management committee to coordinate and help shape our community both now and for the future.

The following posts need to be elected at our forthcoming AGM and will be held for a period of one year:

– Chair
– Secretary
– Treasurer

We also need up to 6 additional committee members including leads for our two key sub-groups (Social Unity & Safer Communities) to form a full management committee.

So that we have an idea of those that may want to get involved, do express your interest by completing this website form.

Channels Driveway Sale

Fingers crossed but the weather is looking good on Sunday 11th July for the re-scheduled Driveway Sale. The event will now start earlier, from 12pm, so people have more time before the various sporting events on that day.

If you were previously on the participant map, you’ll stay on it unless you flag otherwise and you can email laura.lane@channelsresidents.org.uk to be taken off of the map or added to it!

It is the Final of the Euros (and the Wimbledon Men’s Final) but should we be in the final the suggestion is to make it a more fun, community event! Get your flags outs, play some music, sit out on your drive with a drink and chat with neighbours, maybe you have some garden games people could play (with sanitised hands), bake some cakes, remembering to take a walk around too!

Raffle prizes are still being accepted so if you have anything suitable, please do drop it off before Friday 9th July to 85 Fairway Drive. The raffle is still running and you can use our new PayPal link. Please make sure to include your name and address with any payments.

Join us if you can for some fun on Sunday!

Christmas Light Trail

It is so lovely to see the estate lit up when its dark! If you’d like to see all of the beautifully decorated houses then why not have a go at the Light Trail. The trail can be followed any time from today until 23rd December. The light bulbs on the map below 💡 show some of the decorated houses and the stars ⭐️ show where you will find a letter. Put all the letters together to create a festive word then enter the competition – more details on the map!

You can print the map yourself, screen shot the photo or save it to your phone or other device to follow as you walk. We are unable to provide printed maps this year. 😏

We will be having a community ‘Walkabout’ from 4.30pm on 20th December with ‘socially distanced’ carols round the Christmas tree from 5pm (please keep groups to 6 or less). Feel free to bring a hot drink along with you too as unfortunately we wont be able to serve any drinks or food this year as we have done in previous years.

The raffle will be drawn on 20th too and prizes distributed as soon after as possible so make sure to purchase any tickets by 8pm on 19th Dec to be included in this years draw.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Merry Christmas to you all from the CRCG 😊
