Fingers crossed but the weather is looking good on Sunday 11th July for the re-scheduled Driveway Sale. The event will now start earlier, from 12pm, so people have more time before the various sporting events on that day.
If you were previously on the participant map, you’ll stay on it unless you flag otherwise and you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to be taken off of the map or added to it!
It is the Final of the Euros (and the Wimbledon Men’s Final) but should we be in the final the suggestion is to make it a more fun, community event! Get your flags outs, play some music, sit out on your drive with a drink and chat with neighbours, maybe you have some garden games people could play (with sanitised hands), bake some cakes, remembering to take a walk around too!
Raffle prizes are still being accepted so if you have anything suitable, please do drop it off before Friday 9th July to 85 Fairway Drive. The raffle is still running and you can use our new PayPal link. Please make sure to include your name and address with any payments.
Join us if you can for some fun on Sunday!
Original map below so ignore the time and date…
There are signs beginning to appear that show us that Spring is arriving and we thought it would be lovely for our community to share photos taken locally of the stunning nature that can be found all around us. By ‘nature’ we mean photos of local wildlife, plants, trees and flowers.
We are asking for any photographs to be added to the relevant Facebook post (in whichever group you see it), or if preferred, e-mailed to email@example.com by Sunday 11th April. A shortlist of photos will be created for residents to vote for their favourite.
- Include first name & age range (under 12, 12-18, 18+) with your entry;
- Maximum of 5 photos per person;
- Entries to be in by 8pm Sunday 11th April 2021;
- Any photos not fitting a nature theme as outlined won’t count;
- It’s a bit of fun 🙂
We look forward to seeing what you’ve captured so get snapping!
The Channels Christmas Raffle draw has taken place and the photo below shows the winning tickets for the 27 prizes we had donated! We have everyone’s details and will aim to deliver the prizes by the end of the day tomorrow (23rd December).
Thank you to you all for your support, over £200 was raised that will be used to help fund future community events 👍🏻
If you have any questions or would like to get in touch either message us or email Laura.firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is so lovely to see the estate lit up when its dark! If you’d like to see all of the beautifully decorated houses then why not have a go at the Light Trail. The trail can be followed any time from today until 23rd December. The light bulbs on the map below 💡 show some of the decorated houses and the stars ⭐️ show where you will find a letter. Put all the letters together to create a festive word then enter the competition – more details on the map!
You can print the map yourself, screen shot the photo or save it to your phone or other device to follow as you walk. We are unable to provide printed maps this year. 😏
We will be having a community ‘Walkabout’ from 4.30pm on 20th December with ‘socially distanced’ carols round the Christmas tree from 5pm (please keep groups to 6 or less). Feel free to bring a hot drink along with you too as unfortunately we wont be able to serve any drinks or food this year as we have done in previous years.
The raffle will be drawn on 20th too and prizes distributed as soon after as possible so make sure to purchase any tickets by 8pm on 19th Dec to be included in this years draw.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Merry Christmas to you all from the CRCG 😊
We are holding our annual Christmas raffle but due to the current situation, we cannot sell tickets in person. Instead, tickets can be purchased via the Donate with Paypal button below:
Just make sure to add your initial and address as a note when paying so we can pop tickets through your door. If PayPal isn’t your thing you can put cash in an envelope with your name & address on the front, deliver to 85 or 89 Fairway Drive and we will pop tickets back through your door.
Tickets are only £1 per strip and can be purchased up until 19th December, the day before our Light Trail Walkabout on December 20th. Prizes will be drawn on that day and delivered soon after 👍🏻
Profits from the raffle will go towards funding future events or buying items to enhance our estate such as lights for our lovely Christmas tree.
So far we have some lovely prizes with the top prize being a 2nd Generation Google Nest mini in Sky Blue. We also have a toy bundle, star necklace from Sophinity, wine and more… See the photos below 🙂
We are still accepting donations for the raffle if anyone else would like to contribute, just let us know!
The Inaugural Channels 5k Running Route is now officially launched! Take a look a the detailed Route Guide (pdf) and give it a go.
It’s not a (virtual) race however if you use any of the well known fitness apps, you can track your progress over time. The route is relatively straight forward with a mix of tarmac and gravel paths and there are plenty of benches along the way if you need a rest.
Let’s see how many people we can get to complete it (either running or walking) and don’t forget we have a Channels Residents Runners Facebook Group and Strava Club if you want to get involved and share experiences etc.
We know there is only about 200m of the route that is actually within the Channels boundary however it starts and ends here so that’s what counts!
Don’t forget our Christmas event is now just 1 week away! We have taken delivery of a large marquee (so who cares if it rains!) and our tree will be installed during the coming week.
We look forward to seeing you all on the communal green area between Eagle Rise & Aqua Verde from 3.00pm on Sunday 15th December 🙂
Do you have a bike or might you be getting one this Christmas?
PCSO Mitchell & PCSO Viner from the Community Policing Team are holding a bike marking event at the Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre:
Saturday 4th January 2020 from 10am – 1pm.

With the festive season not that far away, the Community Group Social Unity Committee is working to bring something a little bit special to Channels again this year.
With the support of those working across the development, and at the Channels Estate, we will see the installation of a lit Christmas tree on the communal green area between Eagle Rise & Aqua Verde. All being well, we will also have a marquee erected (purchased with our grant) so that if the weather is as unkind as it was in 2018, the fun can continue!
We welcome you and your family to join us on Sunday 15th December from 3.00pm when the Christmas tree will be the focal point for festivities.
Plans are underway for fun and games, local business stalls, mulled wine, refreshments, a minced pie bake off competition, a raffle and most importantly a Christmas sing along!
If you want to get involved in assisting making our event a success, do get in touch via: www.Channels.Community/Xmas-Help
We look forward to seeing you all on the green from 3.00pm on Sunday 15th December 🙂

It is currently estimated that a person is formally diagnosed with Dementia every 3 minutes. Dementia is one of the key issues for our political leadership, health, social care and local government. With this in mind communities need to understand what is required to help and support friends, relatives and neighbours in future years.
As a Parish Councillor and resident, I have worked with Little Waltham Parish Council to arrange for Mark Neville of the Alzheimer’s Society (Essex) to present a ‘Dementia Friends and Action Session’, which will provide information on the issues faced by people living with Dementia, their loved ones and carers.
As we build our community and plan for the future, we need to be generally more inclusive which means ensuring that services across the area are aware of local requirements, that they meet their legal duties under the Equality Act and that they help us to develop Dementia Friendly Communities.
The session will enable those attending to gain a greater knowledge of Dementia and how to deal with the challenges it presents:
- Gain a greater awareness of the challenges people with Dementia may face;
- Understand the difficulties carers and loved ones can experience;
- Develop transferable skills, i.e. meeting the requirements of people with Dementia will also help in meeting the needs of other marginalised groups
The session will take place at The Tufnell Hall, The Street, Little Waltham, CM3 3NY commencing 7.30 pm on 10th October 2019 and the bar will be open with refreshments on sale from 7.00pm.
