Jubilee: 2 Weeks to Go!

Channels Residents Community Group is proud to be part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons and Associated Activities and has announced plans to light a Beacon for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the evening of Thursday, June 2nd, 2022.

The Beacon is one of thousands being lit in the UK and the Commonwealth, and forms part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend. The Beacon will be lit at Channels Park, and it will be one of over 2,022 lit by charities, communities and faith groups all over the UK.

In addition, beacons will be lit in all 54 Commonwealth capitals and the Principal Beacon lighting will take place in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening. This will take the form of a lighting installation with The Queen’s Green Canopy ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture and projections onto the front of Buckingham Palace. This innovative new way of taking part in the beacon lighting will reflect the Royal Family’s long history championing environmental causes.

We will be opening the weekend of Jubilee celebrations with the Beacon Lighting Ceremony and the evening will include a Jubilee Raffle, a Cake Decorating Competition, a family Jubilee Trail, some craft activities for children and everyone singing ‘A Life Filled with Grace’ as the beacon is lit.

Over the next two weeks, we will post more detail and reminders about the evening so keep an eye out for updates via the CRCG website, Facebook & Twitter! πŸ™‚

For now, and if you are a Channels Resident, you can buy your Jubilee Raffle tickets online in advance and there are some great prizes to be won!

Jubilee Celebrations!

On 2nd June 2022, we will celebrate another unique milestone in our history, Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth – her Platinum Jubilee.

As a community, we can pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen as part of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend of celebrations from 2nd to 5th June 2022 and the CRCG will be kicking off the weekend of activities taking place in the local area with a beacon lighting event in Channels Park.

There will be more information & updates over the coming weeks however for now, you can find a little more about the Platinum Jubilee here and our very own beacon at www.channels.community/jubilee-beacon/

New Walking Group

Dear Residents,

I attended a ‘Walk Motivator’ training session recently and I recall some questions being asked about walking groups not so long ago. The training was interesting and gave some good insight about how to motivate and empower people to get together and get out walking.

As we are approaching Spring, I thought it would be a good idea to help motivate people to get out and about! A new Facebook group has been set up for anyone interested in walking and meeting with like minded people.

To make things easy, if you are already a member of the main Channels Community Chelmsford Facebook Group, you will be automatically ‘approved’ when you request to join.

The general advice was not to start off advertising organised walks as this can lead to expectations about responsibility, management and risk but to facilitate people getting together so they can arrange their own walks, share experiences and post up new or interesting routes etc.

In time, it may be that people want to become walk leaders and organise things more formally however for now why not join the group, get together and enjoy some walking with other members of the community.

Happy walking! πŸ™‚

Community Meet Up

As it appears that numbers attending on Friday will be low, and as nobody has expressed an interest in joining the main CRCG Committee, we have decided that there is no benefit in holding an Annual General Meeting at this time. We will prepare an annual report, which will be circulated early in the new year, and we will look to hold an AGM at a later date.

Every resident is considered to be part of the Channels Residents Community Group however we do need a working management committee to coordinate and progress important projects such as the Defibrillator and the 2022 Jubilee Celebrations.

The room at the Community Centre has been booked, so please do come along for a chat and to get to know your local Channels community neighbours whilst having a cup of mulled wine and some light refreshments.

If there are any new rules regarding use of the Community Centre in light of the current COVID situation, we will update accordingly.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday from 7pm. Seasonal hats welcomed! πŸ™‚

Christmas Card Competition

Calling all artists young and not so young!

We are looking for someone to design our CRCG Christmas card again this year. Those who were with us last year will have received the Christmas card designed by Suki and we are looking for a new design for this year! πŸŽ„πŸ€©πŸŽ…πŸ»

Please create your design on a piece of A4 card or paper using whatever style you like… it just needs to be flat so it can be printed. πŸ‘πŸ» You can draw, paint, colour, collage… the choice is yours! πŸŽ¨βœοΈπŸ–

Just make sure to hand deliver your masterpiece to 85 Fairway Drive no later than Monday 22nd November. 🏠

Local Clubs & Groups

If you are running a club or group (physical or virtual) and would like to make others across the Channels community aware, simply fill in the form HERE and it can be listed on the Local Clubs & Groups page.

As long as the club or group is family friendly and is focussed on or features the Channels development, it will be listed! πŸ™‚

If you want to further promote your club or group, and there is sufficient interest, we may be able to focus on one per month to give residents more detail about what you are doing.
